Yesterday morning was the last day of recent king tides, I was able to paddle out and enjoy surfing. My first time ever during king tides.

So what’s different, here is what I experienced:
The current is strong, the save is not regular and harder to predict. So surfing during king tides can be a unique and enjoyable experience, but it can also present some challenges. For example, when paddling out, you will find the pushing from the wave could be stronger.
I wore a 3/2 wetsuit yesterday, it was a wrong decision, I was freezing cold and shaking after 2hrs in the water. Please at least do 5mm wetsuit.
So what is king tides?
King tides are exceptionally high tidal ranges that occur a few times a year and are caused by the alignment of the sun, moon, and earth. They often result in larger and more powerful waves, which can be ideal for surfing if you are an experienced surfer and have the necessary skills and equipment to handle the conditions.
So what are the challenges?
If you are not an experienced surfer or if you do not have the right equipment, surfing during king tides can be dangerous. The waves may be too powerful and unpredictable for you to safely ride, and you may be at risk of being swept away or thrown against the shore or rocks. It is important to always be aware of your surroundings and to never underestimate the power of the ocean.
Therefore, if you do decide to go surfing during king tides, be sure to take the necessary precautions to stay safe. Wear a wetsuit to protect yourself from the cold water and rough conditions, and use a leash to keep yourself connected to your surfboard. Pay attention to the weather and water conditions, and always heed any warnings or advisories from local authorities. If you are unsure about your ability to handle the conditions, it is always best to err on the side of caution and avoid surfing during king tides.
When in Doubt, Don’t paddle out.
