I am preparing for my mom’s coming to US, though she has been here for 4+ times with 1.5years + duration, entry into US is still not a breeze.

This time she will entry through San Francisco International Airport (SFO) with connecting flight to Seattle. So I am preparing the steps:

  1. Get off the plane with carry on luggage
  2. Go through immigration
  3. Pick up checked in luggage
  4. Go to “connecting flights” door, find your airline counter to drop your luggage.
  5. Go to your connecting flights’ terminal (as shown below, your domestic flight will definitely be in a different terminal)
  6. Go through security check again. (because different terminal has its own security checkpoints)
  7. Find your flight’s gate.
  8. Board the connecting flights.

Due to the pandemic, there are one extra thing to consider: health insurance during the stay. Visitors cannot enroll in US’s normal health insurance plan, so people usually choose travel insurance, make sure it can cover:

  1. a Pre-existing condition
  2. Pandemic related, such as Covid …
  3. The coverage limit for age
