Afternoon tea etiquette

My girl in Scotland

I haven’t visited Hongkong for years, my last stay was in 2008, the trip was attached to my Macau visit. After 15years, I wanted to go back and find afternoon tea become a recommended tourist activity.

I lived in UK for several months around Warwick, a lovely historical town. I really enjoy the leisure and good breakfast but I never tried afternoon tea. (maybe my living standard haven’t reached that level.)

I found myself learning the afternoon tea etiquette from youtube and website.

Several things I found:

  1. it is not a cheap habit because it is 3-5pm, you should have the leisure to enjoy the afternoon. And you should have a late night dinner with entertainment so that you don’t go to bed full. So it is embedded into a good lifestyle
  2. it is no difference than going to a decent restaurant for brunch or dinner. Dress smart, wait others to finish this round of food, don’t look over your tea, don’t stir in circle but back and forth.
  3. There is no special food, it is a combination of dessert and light appetizer. Don’t expect to be surprised by the food selection.
  4. It is more a social event than a food event. The ‘social’ part can be with your true self, that you want to enjoy the process all by yourselves.

Will I add it to my trip? Yes, why not, I even saved the website for the afternoon tea in Hongkong. I will post a article when I did the trip.
